Business Context Construction
Industry-aligned enterprise context, built from LLMs and the enterprise's own knowledge.
Lesson 3 of 17 · Find it on the platform map
01 What it is
What this layer does
Business Context Construction describes the enterprise itself: its legal structure, segments and geographies, the regulations that bind each part, its competitive position, its stakeholders and the people responsible for each data domain. SCIKIQ builds this context from industry references, process maps, documents, workshops and subject-matter experts, aligned to the industry layer beneath it.
02 Concepts
Four ideas to hold on to
Enterprise profile
A structured description of the holding company, operating companies, legal entities, segments, lines of business and geographies. It is the frame every later mapping refers back to.
Regulatory binding
Attaching each regulation to the specific entity, line of business and jurisdiction it governs. It stops a rule being applied too broadly or missed where it matters.
Stakeholder grid
Placing stakeholders by their influence and interest so that engagement and sign-off are planned rather than improvised.
Domain 360
A single view of a data domain showing its owner, steward and everything associated with it. It makes accountability for each area of data visible.

04 What good looks like
Signs it is working
- Every legal entity and line of business appears in the enterprise profile with its geography.
- For any regulation in scope, the entities and jurisdictions it applies to can be listed.
- Every data domain and sub-domain has a named owner and steward.
- Personas are recorded with their responsibilities, and each maps to the domains they use.

Frequently asked
Where does the business context come from?
From industry references, process maps, enterprise documents, workshops and subject-matter experts, combined with LLM assistance and aligned to the industry reference layer.
Why record competitive position and SWOT in a data platform?
They tell the platform what matters to the business and why, so later priorities, metrics and decisions are framed in the enterprise’s actual situation.
What is the difference between an owner and a steward?
The owner is accountable for a data domain and its use; the steward looks after its day-to-day quality and definitions. Domain 360 records both.
