The platform, layer by layer

How an enterprise intelligence platform actually works, from the systems the data lives in to governed agents that act and learn. One lesson per layer: what it is, why it matters, the concepts, what good looks like and the questions to ask. Read them in order, or start with the layer you are building.

— Connect

SourcesEnterprise SourcesData can remain anywhere: SCIKIQ connects in place and federates on demand.

— Understand & model

Layer 0Industry Knowledge & Reference LayerExternal knowledge that seeds enterprise context before a single table is read.Layer 1Business Context ConstructionIndustry-aligned enterprise context, built from LLMs and the enterprise's own knowledge.Layer 2Logical Enterprise ModelThe industry value chain and process hierarchy, mapped to data domains, personas, decisions and actions.Layer 3Semantic & Ontology ConstructionTaxonomy, glossary, concepts, logical entities and relationships: one shared meaning.

— Discover & ground

Layer 4Enterprise Discovery EngineThe top-down logical model meets bottom-up metadata discovery.Layer 5Logical → Physical MappingMap logical entities to physical sources, virtually, with no data movement required.

— Contextualize

Layer 6Enterprise Knowledge GraphOne graph of business, data, analytical and operational knowledge.Layer 7Semantic Data LayerBusiness objects and virtual semantic models; physical storage becomes an implementation detail.Layer 8Virtual Data FabricConnect, federate and query data wherever it exists.Layer 9Metrics & Knowledge FabricParse BI reports, dashboards and semantic models into a governed metrics layer.Layer 10Context EngineAssemble the right context for each persona, domain and use case.

— Reason & act

Layer 11Agent FabricBuild, deploy and orchestrate domain agents.Layer 12Decision & Reasoning EngineUse context, rules and models to determine what should happen.Layer 13Governance GateSafe, compliant and trusted execution before anything happens.Layer 14Action FabricExecute approved actions across enterprise systems.

— Learn

Layer 15Outcome & ObservabilityMeasure outcomes and feed continuous learning back into every layer.
